Paper pattern
The eligible students will have to pass 2 exams (Paper-I & Paper-II) out of which the 1st exam is a common exam for every candidate and the second examination will be for core subject wise. The core subject examination will contain all the questions regarding the subject which you have selected to pursue further. Both papers are conducted on the same day and students will get a gap of 30 minutes between the common paper and the subject paper. Both papers are in the CBT (Computer Based Test) with MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
1st Paper: Common Objective test
All the candidates who have applied for UGC NET/JRF should appear in this paper and the questions asked under this paper are common for all the candidates no matter whether they’re applying for different subjects or the same subjects.
In the first paper, there are 50 questions asked, each for 2 marks with a total of 100 marks. The time for completing the questions on the common paper is 1 hour and each question available in the question paper is of 2 marks.
The syllabus of this exam includes 10 Units comprising Language Comprehension, Research Aptitude, Teaching Aptitude, Communication, Reasoning, Information & Communication Technology, Maths, Data Interpretation, People, Development & Environment and Higher Education.
2nd Paper: Core Subject
After the break of 30 minutes of completing the 1st paper, the candidates are called for completing the 2nd paper. Under this paper, the candidates should have to answer the questions of selected subjects.
This exam contains 2 hours and under the period of 2 hours the candidates should have to answer 100 questions and each question attains 2 marks.
Eligibility for the UGC NET/JRF Exam
Students who are willing to apply for this exam should have precise eligibility to fill out the form for this examination.
For JRF :
- He/she shouldn’t have an age of more than 28 years which is calculated as of 1st January of the year. Candidates who have crossed the age of 28 years are ineligible to apply for this exam. (For general category only)
- For the reserved category, there is an age relaxation of around 5 years.
- The candidate who has applied for under UGC Net/JRF should have Passed or appeared in Masters’s Degree and secure 55% and more marks (for General Category). Relaxations are there for reserved category candidates.
- For Assistant Professor: Age no bar.
